The violence broke out in the lobby of the court on Golden Hill Street where Jayvell Washington was set to be arraigned for the shooting death of 50-year-old Eugene Rogers Jr. outside the Citgo gas station on Reservoir Avenue on Sunday, officials said.

State police described the incident as "a large disturbance at the court involving multiple people. Unknown on the exact amount," a spokesperson said.

In order to gain control, police closed down Golden Hill Street. And the court was closed for some time.

Police said there could be as many as three arrests, with unknown charges at this time.

Bridgeport police reported they also were on the scene, but that judicial marshals and state police were in charge of the melee that included more than two dozen people, including men and women, young and old.

Washington, 39, was arrested just hours after the Sunday shooting where Rogers was shot multiple times, including in the head.

Rogers' family members claim they were attacked by Washington's family.

Washington was eventually arraigned on charges of murder, criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a pistol without a permit. He is being held on $3 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court again Feb. 13.

According to multiple news reports and police, the two families have been feuding since the summer of 2017, with numerous acts of violence and shootings.
